About
Lake Superior Cart-in Campground provides a unique camping experience that balances convenience with solitude along Minnesota's dramatic North Shore. The campground features 13 individual tent sites located near the Lake Superior shoreline, accessed via wheeled carts that campers use to haul gear from the parking area. Sites are spread up to 0.6 miles from parking, offering varying levels of seclusion. Each site includes a fire ring, picnic table, and bear-proof storage locker. The campground operates year-round, though carting equipment becomes impractical when snow covers the ground during winter months. Facilities are intentionally rustic, with vault toilets serving the camping area. Campers should note that potable water is not available at the campsites; the nearest water source is at the park office approximately 1.5 miles away. The campground provides access to Lake Superior's shoreline, including scenic pebble beaches, and connects to Tettegouche State Park's extensive trail network featuring waterfalls, overlooks, and rugged North Shore terrain.
Directions
From Highway 61, turn at Tettegouche State Park entrance. Follow signs to the cart-in campground parking area, located separately from the main drive-in campground.
