Tettegouche Camp - Remote Cabins

Open

Open year-round. Reservations available online up to 120 days in advance. No vehicle access; requires 1.7 to 3.5 mile hike to reach cabins.

Special Weather Statement issued July 21 at 9:57AM CDT by NWS Duluth MN

9:57 AM — 7:00 PM

Due to continued dry conditions in forested areas and gusty north to northwest winds around 20 to 30 mph today, conditions will remain favorable for near-critical fire weather conditions through this afternoon. This is despite relatively higher minimum RH values expected today at 40 to 50 percent. The situation is evaluated daily by the National Weather Service and the Minnesota Interagency Fire Center. Dry and windy conditions could lead to the rapid spread of fires today. For more information on burning restrictions for Minnesota, see www.dnr.state.mn.us/forestry/fire/firerating_restrictions.html.

About

Tettegouche Camp provides a true backcountry cabin experience within Minnesota's Tettegouche State Park, located along the rugged North Shore of Lake Superior. The four rustic cabins are clustered together near Mic Mac Lake, accessible only by foot. The shorter 1.7-mile route from Lax Lake Road is steep but allows mountain bikes; the 3.5-mile trek from the main trailhead follows more gradual terrain. Guests must carry all gear in, as carts are not provided. Each cabin features a woodstove with firewood supplied, a small kitchenette with two-burner cooktop, mini refrigerator, pots, pans, plates, and utensils. A screened porch, picnic table, and fire ring with grill are provided at each cabin. Cabins do not have bathrooms or running water; potable water is available from a hand pump near the shared facilities. A canoe with paddles and life vests is included for exploring the lake. The cabins share a central shower and bathroom building plus a day-use lodge with picnic tables, fireplaces, and screened porch. Cabin sizes range from a one-room unit for two guests to three-room log cabins accommodating up to six. Cabin D has an accessible interior, though there is no drive-up access. Reservations are available online up to 120 days in advance.

Directions

From the Tettegouche State Park main entrance on Highway 61, hike 3.5 miles on park trails to reach the cabins. Alternatively, access via Lax Lake Road for a shorter but steeper 1.7-mile hike; mountain bikes are permitted on this route only.
