About

Sherando Lake Group Camp is situated in the George Washington National Forest's Blue Ridge Mountains and serves as a dedicated group camping facility within the popular Sherando Lake Recreation Area. The campground features five separate tent-only group sites arranged around a loop road, each accommodating up to 15 guests, with a maximum capacity of 75 people when all sites are reserved together. Each site is delineated with fencing and equipped with picnic tables, grills, lantern posts, and a serving table, with drinking water available at every site. The campground provides modern amenities including a bathhouse with flush toilets and hot showers at the upper end of the loop, plus a vault toilet at the lower end. A large open grassy field occupies the center of the loop, providing excellent space for group activities, games, and night-time stargazing. Electronic gate access is required for entry, and campers should note the gate code before arrival as cell phone coverage is unreliable. Recreation opportunities abound with access to the 25-acre Lower Lake featuring a designated swimming area with sandy beach, accessible ramp, and bathhouse facilities. Fishing is available in both the Lower Lake and the 7-acre Upper Lake, which are stocked during spring and fall seasons. Only electric troll motors, canoes, kayaks, and similar boats are permitted. Hiking trails range from easy lakeside walks on the Lakeside and Cliff Trails to challenging day hikes and backpacking trips via the Blue Loop Trail to Torry Ridge Trail and beyond. The Blue Ridge Parkway is just 3 miles away via State Route 664.
