About
Sherando Lake Group Camp is located at the upper end of the Sherando Lake Recreation Area in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, often called the jewel of the Blue Ridge. The campground features five distinct tent-only sites arranged around a loop road, with a large grassy common area in the center suitable for group activities and stargazing. Each site is fenced and equipped with picnic tables, a charcoal grill, serving table, and lantern posts. The recreation area offers a 25-acre lower lake with a sandy swimming beach, accessible ramp to the water, and bathhouse with changing facilities. The 7-acre upper lake near the group camp provides fishing-only access with stocked trout during spring and fall seasons. Hiking options range from easy lakeside walks on the Cliff Trail to challenging day hikes up the Blue Loop Trail to Bald Mountain. RVs, pop-ups, and camper vans are not permitted in the group camping area. Food must be secured in a locked vehicle due to bear activity. Cell coverage is unreliable throughout the area.
