Light icing possible along the Blue Ridge Parkway overnight. Temperatures along the Blue Ridge Parkway are in the upper 20s to around 30. This will promote icing on elevated surfaces such as tree limbs and powerlines. Slick spots may also develop on bridges where the air can pass underneath and freeze the pavement. Temperatures are expected to remain nearly steady through the overnight...hovering near or just below freezing in the higher elevations, and above freezing in the lower elevations.

About

Oronoco Campground is a primitive camping area situated in the George Washington National Forest near Vesuvius, Virginia, in northern Amherst County. Located along the Pedlar River and just a few hundred yards from Highway 60, this free campground provides convenient access while maintaining a natural, undeveloped character. The campground can accommodate approximately a dozen RVs of various sizes, along with tent campers, making it suitable for different camping setups. The facility is designed for self-sufficient campers seeking a no-frills experience in the national forest. A vault toilet is centrally located within the campground, but no drinking water is available on-site, so visitors must bring their own supply. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system. Its proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway and location within the national forest make it a convenient base for exploring the surrounding mountains and trails. Access to Oronoco Campground is via Forest Service Road 521, just off State Route 605. While the campground is accessible to RVs and trailers, visitors should note that Highway 60 features steep grades in the area. As a very low-level national forest campground, Oronoco receives minimal maintenance compared to developed campgrounds, and visitors should be prepared for a primitive camping experience.
