About

Situated within the broad valleys of the Shenango River and Pymatuning Creek, Shenango Recreation Area Campground offers a spacious lakeside camping experience managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The campground features over 300 sites, many equipped with electric hookups, spread across multiple loops including the year-round Old Duck Loop. Modern amenities include flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water, dump station, and playgrounds. Shenango River Lake stretches 11 miles up its namesake river, covering over 11,000 acres lined with northern hardwood forest of Black Cherry, Beech, Maple and Hemlock. The shallow lake provides excellent fishing opportunities for bass, walleye, muskellunge and panfish, with unlimited horsepower boating permitted. Six free boat launches provide easy water access, and a boat ramp is located within the campground. Nearby attractions include the half-mile Coonie Trail interpretive nature trail, the 7.5-mile Shenango Water Trail for paddlers, Chestnut Run Swim Beach, Bayview Off-Road Vehicle Area, and the Pines Disc Golf Course. The area offers excellent wildlife viewing with plentiful deer, turkey, osprey and eagles. The campground is reservation-only through Recreation.gov and is located approximately 7 miles from Sharon, Pennsylvania and 21 miles from Youngstown, Ohio.

Directions

Take Exit 4B (formerly Exit 1) off I-80 and follow Route 18 north about 6 miles until you cross the lake's causeway. The park is on the left, but this is a divided highway. Continue north about 1/4 mile, take the Birchwood Drive exit, make the turn-around and go south on Route 18. Before you cross the causeway again, make a right onto West Lake Road and travel approximately 1/4 mile to the park entrance on the left.
