The Shenango Lakeside Picnic Shelter is a covered group pavilion located within the Shenango Recreation Area on Shenango River Lake, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facility in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. This is a day-use area only with no overnight camping permitted. The shelter can accommodate 42-56 people depending on seating arrangements and features electric service available with paid reservations. Amenities include grills on site, with flush toilets and drinking water available at the nearby restroom by the boat launch on a seasonal basis. Recreational facilities include a children's swing set, volleyball court, basketball hoop, and open fields. The shelter must be vacated by 9:00 p.m. and alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Shenango Lake stretches 11 miles up the Shenango River, covering over 11,000 acres with shores lined by northern hardwood forest including black cherry, beech, maple, and hemlock. Those seeking overnight accommodations can camp at the adjacent 330-site Shenango Rec Area Campground.

Directions

Take Exit 4B off I-80 and follow Route 18 north for about 8 miles until you cross the lake's causeway. Continue north about 1/4 mile, exit right at Birchwood Drive, make the turn-around, and go south on Route 18. Before crossing the causeway again, turn right onto West Lake Road and travel approximately 1/4 mile to the park entrance on the left. After the entrance booth, take a left, proceed to the parking lots, turn right at the next stop sign, then left at the last parking lot, then right to reach the shelter's looped parking area.
