About
Located within the suburban Shenango Valley at the Mahaney Outflow Recreation Area, the Riverview Shelter provides a covered group picnic facility adjacent to the Shenango Dam. The shelter accommodates between 42-56 people depending on table configuration and offers electric service with paid reservations. Amenities include grills on-site, seasonal flush toilets and drinking water at the adjacent restroom, a children's playground, and a small hiking trail. The concrete gravity Shenango Dam and its outflow are a short walk away, offering excellent fishing opportunities for crappie, bass, walleye, catfish, and muskellunge. The shelter is approximately 50 feet from the parking lot and operates as a day-use only area with no overnight camping permitted. When not reserved, the shelter is available first-come, first-served without electric service. The area is surrounded by northern hardwood forest featuring black cherry, beech, maple, and hemlock, with opportunities to observe deer, turkey, osprey, and eagles. The nearby Mahaney Recreation Area features a disc golf course and lake access.
Directions
Take Exit 4B off I-80 and follow Route 18 north for approximately 5 miles. Turn left at the stoplight onto Lamor Road (at the intersection with Dollar General and D'Onofrio's Food Center). Continue straight for 2 miles as Lamor Road becomes South Walnut Street. Turn right onto East High Street and cross a one-lane steel bridge. Just up the hill, veer right at the Y intersection, then make another right shortly after. This is the entrance to the Mahaney Outflow Recreation Area with the picnic shelter and parking lot around the corner to the right.
