About

Located within the suburban Shenango Valley along the Shenango River, the Clark Picnic Shelter provides a covered group gathering space in a scenic day use recreation area managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The shelter accommodates 36-48 people depending on table configuration and includes electric service (20-amp only) with paid reservations, on-site grills, and seasonal flush toilets with drinking water attached to the shelter. When not reserved, the shelter is available first-come, first-served without electric. The Clark Recreation Day Use Area offers direct access to the 11-mile-long, 11,000-acre Shenango Lake with an accessible fishing pier, fish cleaning station, and paved boat ramp. The lake is popular for crappie, bass, walleye, catfish and muskellunge fishing, and supports unlimited horsepower boating in designated areas. The shoreline is forested with northern hardwoods including black cherry, beech, maple, and hemlock, with opportunities to observe osprey, eagles, deer, and turkey. This is a day use area only with no overnight camping permitted. The shelter must be vacated by 9:00 p.m. and alcoholic beverages are prohibited. RC's Marina is located adjacent to the recreation area offering boat rentals, and the Shenango Water Trail provides 7.5 miles of paddling opportunities nearby. Full-service camping with 330 sites is available one mile north at the Shenango Recreation Area Campground.

Directions

Take Exit 4B off I-80 and follow Route 18 north for approximately 7 miles. Before crossing over the lake, turn right at the stoplight at the Tara onto Route 258. The entrance is immediately on the left after turning, just after the Tara. The picnic shelter is on the right as you drive toward the boat launch and fishing pier area.
