Shawnee Ohio River Campground opened in May 2023 as the newest addition to Ohio's state park system, built on 205 acres of land that formerly housed a golf course at Shawnee State Park. The campground features 80 modern full-service hookup sites with electric, water, and sewer connections. All sites include level gravel pads, fire rings, and picnic tables, and pets are welcome throughout the facility. The campground's signature feature is a one-mile kayak water trail created from the previous golf course water hazards, with kayak rentals available from the on-site camp store. A two-mile River Walk Trail follows the Ohio River, providing scenic walking and biking opportunities. Additional amenities include a dog park, playground with splash pad, Storybook trail, paddling pond, fitness area, and pump track for bikes. Much of the remaining green space is being converted to pollinator habitat. The facility includes 12 electric-only sites, two of which are ADA-accessible, along with the 80 full-hookup sites. Portable toilets are currently available. The campground is located adjacent to the marina facility on U.S. Route 52, offering easy access to the Ohio River. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance through ReserveOhio.com or by calling the state parks reservation line.
