About

Grayson Lake Damsite Shelters are a collection of four group picnic shelters managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, situated near the dam on Grayson Lake in Carter County, Kentucky. These shelters are designed for day-use gatherings and can accommodate groups ranging from 80 to 125 people depending on the site. Each shelter is equipped with water hookups, electric service (15 to 100 amp), large grills, and picnic tables, with playgrounds adjacent to each shelter. Grayson Lake spans approximately 20 miles and is renowned for its sculptured sandstone cliffs that rise dramatically above the water, creating scenic canyons ideal for exploration by boat. The surrounding landscape features oak, pine, elm, and tulip poplar forests with particularly impressive fall foliage. Popular activities include boating, fishing for bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill, swimming, and hiking the Api-su-ahts Trail which offers over 22 miles of loops through the Wildlife Management Area. A marina is located at the dam site for boat storage, and Grayson Lake State Park is nearby with additional amenities including an 18-hole golf course. Alcohol is prohibited at the shelter sites.
