About
Shakes Slough 2 Cabin offers a wilderness retreat in the heart of the Stikine-LeConte Wilderness, located on the north shore of the Stikine River where it meets Shakes Slough. This 16' x 16' A-frame cabin features a sleeping loft, partially covered front porch, 2 single bunks (1 with trundle), wooden table and benches, and an oil space heater. The cabin is tucked into a stand of spruce trees with spectacular views of Popof Glacier, Mount Basargin, and surrounding peaks. The location makes an excellent basecamp for exploring the Stikine River by boat. Shakes Lake and Glacier are three miles north and offer excellent wildlife viewing and scenery. The Chief Shakes Hot Springs are approximately four miles upstream and can be accessed by boat via Hot Springs Slough. Cutthroat trout and Dolly Varden fishing is available from June to October. The Stikine River tide flats serve as a major stopover point for migratory shorebirds and waterfowl in spring and fall. Brown and black bears roam the area, moose are sometimes seen among willow thickets, and mountain goats can occasionally be spotted in the surrounding mountains. Guests must bring their own #1 stove oil, bedding, cook stove, lanterns, and utensils. Wilderness restrictions apply.
