Schafer State Park Campground is a historic 119-acre camping destination on the East Fork Satsop River in Mason County, midway between Olympia and Ocean Shores. Designated as a state and national historic site in 2010, the park celebrated its 100th anniversary as a state park in 2024 with major renovations that expanded the campground from 38 to 68 sites. The campground offers a mix of full hookup sites with water and electric, standard sites, and bicycle camping sites spread across East and West campgrounds. Sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet with some pull-through options available. Modern amenities include flush restrooms with hot showers, a dump station, WiFi, and a welcome center. Group camps are also available by reservation. The East Fork Satsop River is the main attraction, providing excellent fishing opportunities for steelhead, cutthroat trout, and salmon. The calm, shallow river is ideal for swimming, wading, and floating on inner tubes. Two miles of hiking trails wind through classic Western Washington forest with Douglas fir, western hemlock, and abundant ferns. The park also features interpretive exhibits detailing its natural and cultural history, picnic areas, and reservable shelters.

Directions

Located on West Schafer Park Road near Elma. From Highway 12, take Old 410 Highway west through Satsop, turn right onto East Satsop Road, and follow along the river to the park entrance.
