About
Located near the border of Sawtooth Wilderness and Boise National Forest, Grandjean Campground offers 31 first-come, first-served campsites in a mature ponderosa pine forest. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the Sawtooth backcountry, with the Idaho Centennial Trail heading south along the Payette River toward alpine lakes. A popular loop trail takes hikers through lush high-country lake basins before returning to Grandjean. The area is known for its proximity to natural hot springs located 1.5 miles from the campground, providing a perfect way to relax after a day of hiking. The South Fork of the Payette River offers fishing opportunities, and Sawtooth Lodge, just one mile away, provides additional services. Ten dedicated sites are available for horse campers, making this a popular destination for equestrian access to the wilderness. The remote location, accessed via Forest Roads 524 and 824, ensures a quieter camping experience compared to more accessible Sawtooth campgrounds. The area provides excellent opportunities for day hikes, backpacking, wildlife viewing, and exploring one of Idaho's most stunning wilderness areas.
Directions
From Stanley, travel 35 miles northwest on Highway 21, then turn east onto Forest Road 524 for 7 miles. Turn left on Forest Road 824 at Sawtooth Lodge to reach the campground.
