Barton Flats Campground sits at 6,335 feet in the San Bernardino Mountains, 36 miles northeast of San Bernardino along the Rim of the World Scenic Byway (Highway 38). The campground features 51 sites tucked among pine and oak trees, including 7 ADA-accessible sites. Each site has a picnic table, fire ring with grill, paved parking apron, and bear-proof food storage box. Facilities include flush toilets, hot showers, potable water, and an RV dump station available for a $10 fee. Firewood is sold on-site. The campground provides access to the Rio Monte Trail, a 2.5-mile path that ends at Rio Monte Panorama overlooking the Santa Ana River Valley. The trail also connects to Jenks Lake, which is stocked with rainbow trout and allows non-motorized boating. Barton Flats operates as a reservation-only campground through Recreation.gov with no first-come-first-served sites. Single sites accommodate up to 8 people and one vehicle, while double sites allow up to 16 people and two vehicles. Dogs are permitted on leash.

Directions

Take I-10 East to Redlands. Take the University Street exit (Exit 80). Turn left (north) on University Street. Turn right onto E. Lugonia Avenue/SR-38. Continue on Highway 38 for approximately 18 miles to the campground entrance.
