Closed — Closed for the season. The campground is currently closed for the remainder of 2025 due to excessive road damage caused by mudslides. Typically operates from late March through late October. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov.

Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Strongest winds will occur through and below the Cajon Pass and adjacent foothills, below the San Gorgonio Pass, and through the canyons of the Santa Ana Mountains.
About
Barton Flats Campground sits at 6,360 feet elevation in the San Bernardino Mountains, 36 miles northeast of San Bernardino along the Rim of the World Scenic Byway. The campground offers 51 single and double campsites, including 7 accessible sites, all tucked among mature pine and oak trees on level terrain. All sites are reservable only with no first-come, first-served options. The campground provides excellent trail access, including the famed Santa Ana River Trail used for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. The 2.5-mile Rio Monte Trail begins at the campground and leads to Rio Monte Panorama overlooking the Santa Ana River Valley gorge. The Jenks Lake Trail connects to nearby Jenks Lake, where visitors can fish for stocked rainbow trout and other species, or enjoy non-motorized boating. Facilities include paved parking aprons suitable for RVs, accessible flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water, and an RV dump station. Each site has a picnic table and campfire ring with grill. Firewood is available for purchase on-site. Bear boxes are provided at each campsite for food storage. The campground is hosted and located within the San Gorgonio Recreation Area.
Directions
From I-10 East to Redlands, take University Street exit (EXIT 80). Turn left northbound on University Street, then right onto E. Lugonia Avenue/SR-38. Continue on State Highway 38 for approximately 18 miles to the campground entrance on the left.
