About
San Antonio Campground is nestled in a ponderosa pine forest along the San Antonio River within the Jemez National Recreation Area. At 7,600 feet elevation, visitors experience warm summer days and cool mountain nights. The campground was completely rebuilt and reopened in 2010 as a reduced-impact and recycle campground. The facility includes 20 standard campsites plus a group area with nine walk-in tent sites and a pavilion accommodating up to 100 people. Sites 1-6 feature water and electric hookups. All sites have picnic tables and pedestal grills. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided, though water availability depends on seasonal conditions. A paved walking trail along the river provides fishing access where anglers can catch rainbow trout. The campground offers convenient access to La Cueva Picnic Site, Spence Hot Spring Trailhead, and Battleship Rock Trailhead. The area lies along the 163-mile Jemez Mountain Trail Scenic Byway.
Directions
From Jemez Springs, travel 9 miles north on NM-4 along the Jemez Mountain Trail National Scenic Byway, then take NM-126 for 2 miles to the campground.
