Jemez Falls Picnic Area is situated in a scenic ponderosa pine forest at 7,880 feet elevation within the Jemez National Recreation Area on the Santa Fe National Forest's Jemez District. This day-use facility serves as an excellent basecamp for exploring one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the Jemez Mountains. The picnic area features an accessible shelter, picnic tables, large grills, vault toilets, and trash collection, with capacity for up to 50 people in the group site. A large parking area accommodates day visitors. The primary draw is the trailhead located within the picnic area, providing access to Jemez Falls, which cascades 70 feet over a rocky cliff surrounded by boulders and pines. The trail also leads to McCauley Warm Springs, a popular backcountry destination. The nearby East Fork Jemez River, a small trout stream, is regularly stocked with catchable trout for anglers. The area sits within lands known for the immense cultural heritage of the Jemez people. The picnic area is located 15 miles northeast of Jemez Springs via State Road 4, then 1.5 miles south on Forest Road 133. Nearby attractions include San Diego Canyon Overlook, Valles Caldera National Preserve, and Bandelier National Monument, all offering stunning scenery and geographic history.
