About

Haypress Campground is nestled within the coastal scrub of Tennessee Valley in the Marin Headlands, requiring a 1-mile hike from the Tennessee Valley trailhead on a flat, partially paved trail. The campground spans a large grassy area lined by eucalyptus trees, with California quail, raptors, deer, coyotes, foxes, and bobcats frequently spotted. The site features five individual tent sites for up to 4 people each and one group site accommodating up to 25 people. Each individual site has a tent pad and food locker, while the group site includes two picnic tables. This primitive campground requires campers to pack in all water and pack out all trash. Two vault toilets serve the campground, but no water, showers, or cellphone service is available. Wood and charcoal fires are prohibited; only gas camp stoves are permitted. The surrounding Tennessee Valley area offers excellent hiking opportunities to Tennessee Beach (2 miles), Muir Beach (3.5 miles), Battery Townsley (3.5 miles), and Rodeo Beach (4 miles). The underlying geology is world-renowned, with outcrops of radiolarian ribbon chert along the trails. Temperatures are mild year-round with lows from 50-55°F and highs from 60-65°F, though fog is prevalent May through September.

Directions

From US-101 N take exit 445B toward Mill Valley/Stinson Beach. Continue straight until you can turn left onto Tennessee Valley Road. This road will dead-end at the Tennessee Valley trailhead parking lot. From here, hike 1 mile on Tennessee Valley Trail to Haypress Camp Trail. The trail is flat and partially paved, partially packed dirt.
