About

Sam Owen Campground occupies a scenic peninsula on the east side of Lake Pend Oreille within Idaho Panhandle National Forests. The setting combines dense pine and cedar forest with direct lake access via a sandy swimming beach and boat launch with dock. The adjacent Sam Owen Game Preserve makes deer sightings common and rewards patient birders with diverse species. The half-mile Sam Owen Trail #4 is wheelchair accessible and leads to a vista overlooking Owens Bay with benches for resting. Lake Pend Oreille spans over 82,000 acres with 125 miles of shoreline, supporting kamloops, Dolly Varden, northern pike, trout, and catfish. Kayak and paddleboard rentals are available on-site through a concessionaire. Campsites are standard nonelectric with back-in driveways on paved surfaces. Each site includes a fire pit and picnic table. A group picnic shelter with electricity and lights is available for day use only. The Pend Oreille Scenic Byway passes nearby and is worth exploring.
