About

Green Bay Campground is located about 17 miles southeast of Sandpoint on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille, Idaho's largest and deepest lake. After nearly a year of renovations completed in 2025, the campground now features 17 designated campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. The renovation project, funded through the Great American Outdoors Act, added five new sites, a campground host site, additional vault toilets, and improved road infrastructure and parking areas. Nestled among forested bluffs overlooking the crystal-clear waters of Lake Pend Oreille, the campground provides access to a swimming beach and numerous water-based recreation opportunities including boating and kayaking. The area also offers excellent hiking and mountain biking trails. The campground's proximity to Garfield Bay has made it increasingly popular with both locals and visitors. Access requires driving approximately 3/4 mile past the Forest Service picnic area at Garfield Bay, turning onto Forest Service Road 532 for about 1 mile, then following Forest Service Road 2672 to the campground parking area. Road 2672 is narrow and rough, making it unsuitable for motorhomes or trailers. The campground can also be reached by boat across Lake Pend Oreille, making it a popular destination for water-based campers.

Directions

From Garfield Bay, take the first road to the left past the Forest Service picnic area. Follow this road for about 3/4 mile. Turn right onto Forest Service Road 532. Take Road 532 about 1 mile to Green Bay Road 2672. Road 2672 is not suitable for motorhomes or trailers. Follow Road 2672 to the parking area for the campground. The campground is also accessible by boat on Lake Pend Oreille.
