Sam A. Baker Campground 1 is one of two primary camping areas at Sam A. Baker State Park, nestled in the scenic St. Francois Mountains region of southeast Missouri. The campground offers a mix of basic and electric sites spread throughout a wooded setting with mature trees providing ample shade. Modern facilities include restrooms with flush toilets, hot showers, a dump station, and laundry facilities, making it suitable for both tent campers and RVers. The park's location along Big Creek and the St. Francis River provides excellent opportunities for fishing, canoeing, and year-round floating. Anglers can target bass, bluegill, and catfish in the cool mountain waters. Miles of hiking, backpacking, bicycling, and equestrian trails wind through the ancient Ozark landscape, offering glimpses of the area as early settlers found it. The campground is big-rig friendly with straightforward access via MO Highway 143, which runs directly through the park without narrow roads, steep climbs, or low bridges. A park store is conveniently located near the entrance for supplies.
