Salamonie Lake

Open — Open year-round. The swimming beach operates Memorial Day through Labor Day. A burn ban is in effect for Wabash County, but small campfires in contained fire rings and propane or charcoal grills are allowed.

About

Salamonie Lake sits on a 2,665-acre reservoir constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control, with 12,554 land acres managed by the Indiana DNR Division of State Parks. Located centrally between Wabash, Huntington, and Marion, the property encompasses several state recreation areas including Lost Bridge West, Lost Bridge East, Dora-New Holland, Mount Etna, and Mount Hope. The campground at Lost Bridge West State Recreation Area provides 245 modern electric campsites open year-round, along with two dump stations and four comfort stations. For those seeking a more rustic experience, the property offers 50 primitive equestrian sites at the horsemen's campground and 38 sites at Apple Orchard Campground. Seven youth tent areas are also available. The adjacent Salamonie River State Forest adds 15 primitive horsemen's sites and 21 family primitive sites. Recreational opportunities abound with 40 ponds, marshes, and wetlands supporting diverse wildlife and excellent birding along the Central Indiana Loop of the Indiana Birding Trail. The 13-mile Bloodroot Trail accommodates both hiking and mountain biking, while 40 miles of bridle trails serve equestrians. Water-based activities include fishing, boating with launch ramps and marina services, swimming at the seasonal beach, canoeing, kayaking, and waterskiing. Winter brings opportunities for ice fishing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling on designated trails.
