About
Salamonie Lake sits at the heart of a 12,000-acre recreation area managed by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. The 2,855-acre reservoir serves as the centerpiece for camping, boating, fishing, and swimming. Lost Bridge West State Recreation Area provides the main developed camping with 245 electric hookup sites spread across multiple loops, equipped with 30-amp and select 50-amp electrical service. Four comfort stations with showers and two dump stations serve the electric campground. The Apple Orchard Campground offers 38 primitive sites for a more rustic experience. Equestrian camping is a significant draw, with 50 primitive horse sites at Lost Bridge West and additional facilities at Salamonie River State Forest. The Horsemen's Campground includes 37 equestrian electric sites and 12 primitive equestrian sites for riders seeking hookups. Five boat ramps provide access to the lake, and a marina offers additional services. A beach area allows swimming, though a year-round blue-green algae advisory recommends showering after contact with the water. The recreation area includes an interpretive center, visitor center, hiking and mountain biking trails, snowmobile trails in winter, and geocaching opportunities. Seven youth tent areas accommodate group camping for younger visitors. Quiet hours are enforced from 11 PM to 7 AM.
