About

Fort Harrison State Park occupies 1,700 acres of former military land in northeast Indianapolis, offering trails, fishing on Fall Creek, and two national historic districts including a Museum of 20th Century Warfare. The park features a nature center open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and various recreational opportunities including hiking, jogging trails, picnic areas, and a dog park. This is NOT a traditional campground with tent or RV sites. The reservation system lists shelters and recreation buildings available for day-use rental, suitable for group gatherings, picnics, and events. For overnight stays, the Fort Harrison Inn offers lodge rooms, the Harrison House with 7 guest rooms, and four fully furnished Officer Homes. The park sits at the edge of Indianapolis, making it convenient for day trips while staying at nearby accommodations. The saddle barn is currently closed while the search for a new operator continues.

Directions

From Indianapolis, take I-465 to Exit 40 (56th Street). Head east on 56th Street to Post Road, then turn north. The park entrance is at 59th Street and Post Road. Address: 5753 Glenn Road, Indianapolis, IN 46216.
