About
Sage Creek Campground is the only established campground in the Pryor Mountains, located along the banks of Sage Creek in the Custer Gallatin National Forest. At 6,000 feet elevation, this remote 17-acre campground offers 12 first-come, first-served sites that can accommodate trailers up to 30 feet. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the unique landscape of the Pryor Mountains, including numerous motorized trails and the Bureau of Land Management Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range.
Access requires careful planning. The northern route from Bridger via Powerline Road is not recommended for campers or trailers and requires high clearance vehicles due to rocky, single-track sections. For RVs and trailers, the southern approach via Crooked Creek Road is recommended, though it adds significant travel time (approximately 2.5 hours from Bridger). All roads in the Pryor Mountains become impassable when wet.
The campground provides vault toilets but has inconsistent potable water availability. Campers should plan to bring their own water or be prepared to filter from the creek. There is no trash service, camp store, or host. Sites typically include fire pits and tables. The 16-day maximum stay allows extended exploration of this distinctive mountain range located 50 miles south of Billings.
Directions
From Bridger, MT, drive south 2.8 miles and turn left on Pryor Mountain Road. Continue following Pryor Mountain Road and Forest Road 2308 for approximately 22 miles (high clearance vehicle recommended). For trailers and RVs, use the southern Crooked Creek Road approach from Highway 310, approximately 2.5 hours from Bridger.
