About

Sage Creek Campground is a remote, primitive campground tucked into the Pryor Mountains of Montana's Custer Gallatin National Forest. As the only established campground in the Pryor range, it offers 12 sites along the banks of Sage Creek at the foot of Big Pryor Mountain. The surrounding landscape transitions from high desert to Douglas fir forests at higher elevations. The campground provides basic facilities including vault toilets with accessible features. Water availability from the hand pump is inconsistent, so campers should plan to bring their own supply. No trash service is provided, requiring pack-in/pack-out practices. Firewood is not available on-site, and campers are advised not to transport firewood from other areas to prevent the spread of tree-killing insects. Access to the Pryor Mountains requires careful planning. The northern route via Powerline Road from Bridger requires high-clearance vehicles and is not suitable for trailers or campers. Those with larger rigs should use the southern approach via Crooked Creek Road, though this adds significant driving time. All roads in the area become impassable when wet. The nearby BLM Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range and Big Ice Cave Picnic Ground offer additional recreation opportunities.
