Hydrologic Outlook issued May 23 at 1:44AM MDT by NWS Billings MT
ESFBYZ Unseasonably warm temperatures this weekend into early next week will result in higher flows on area waterways through next week as the remaining high elevation snowpack melts. Flooding is not expected at this time. Rivers such as the Yellowstone and Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone, Stillwater, and Boulder are expected to see flows double the current rates by late in the week. Smaller streams and creeks flowing out of the mountains will see rises late this weekend into early next week, with larger rivers and streams further downstream seeing the strongest increases from Tuesday through Friday. Those with interests along foothills waterways should be prepared for higher water levels, and move property and livestock away from rivers, streams, and low lying areas. Recreationists in the mountains and foothills should be prepared for changing conditions and use extra caution when near waterways. Flows will be higher and faster, and the water is very cold. Cloudy water conditions during runoff can also hide submerged hazards. Keep children and pets away from the edge of fast flowing waterways. Stay tuned to the forecast. Please report any flooding to local law enforcement and have them relay the report to the National Weather Service.
About
Barry's Landing and Trail Creek campgrounds occupy the south district of Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, accessed via Highway 37 about 27 miles north of Lovell, Wyoming. The area provides a quieter, more primitive camping experience compared to the developed Horseshoe Bend area further south. Trail Creek offers 14 RV sites and 16 tent sites, each with a picnic table, fire ring, and access to food storage lockers. Barry's Landing provides overflow gravel-lot camping adjacent to the boat ramp. Facilities are basic: vault toilets operate year-round, but there is no potable water, electricity, or dump station. Campers must bring their own water and pack out trash if receptacles are full. Most RV sites accommodate rigs 28 feet or smaller; there are no pull-through sites. Pets are permitted on leashes no longer than six feet and may not be left unattended. The campground serves as a launch point for boating and fishing on Bighorn Lake, with the Barry's Landing boat ramp nearby. Hiking options include the Barrys Island Trail. Quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and generators are restricted to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Directions
