Medicine Creek Campground offers a backcountry camping experience on Bighorn Lake in Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area. Located 2.8 miles north of Barry's Landing and 0.7 miles west of the main canyon, this boat-in or hike-in campground provides five designated tent sites in a scenic canyon setting. Each site features a level area for one to two tents, a picnic table, a fire ring, and a bear box for food storage. The campground is open year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no fee. The dock is typically operational from the third week of May through mid-September. When the dock is removed or water levels are low, boaters may need to wade ashore and carry gear up to 100 yards. Hikers can access the campground via the Barry's Island Trail from Barry's Landing. There are no toilets or potable water at Medicine Creek. The nearest vault toilets are located 2 miles south at Barry's Landing. Campers should bring all necessary water and supplies. Firewood availability is limited due to high usage, and collection of firewood within the park is prohibited. The area supports wildlife including bighorn sheep and black bears.

Directions

Boat in: Navigate north of Barry's Landing to Dayboard 32 and turn left into Medicine Creek, approximately 2.8 miles. Hike in: Follow Hwy 37 north through the park to Barry's Landing, park there, and hike approximately 3 miles on the Barry's Island Trail.
