Grapevine Campground is located in the North District of Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area near Fort Smith, Montana. The campground offers 14 back-in RV and tent sites situated on the north shore of Afterbay Lake. All sites are accessible and equipped with fire rings and picnic tables, providing basic but comfortable camping accommodations. The campground operates year-round and is primarily first-come, first-served, though reservations can be made by phone. At $18 per night, with a 50% discount for Senior Pass holders, it provides an affordable base for exploring the surrounding recreation area. Vault toilets are available year-round, while seasonal amenities include trash collection from May through October. While there are no RV hookups at the sites, an RV dump station and drinking water are available seasonally across Afterbay Lake near the Headquarters building and Afterbay Campground. The campground enforces a 14-day occupancy limit within a 28-day period, and quiet hours run from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. All sites are accessible via a gravel road surface, making this a practical year-round camping destination for visitors to Bighorn Canyon.

Directions

Take Highway 313 through the town of Fort Smith, Montana. Follow the brown and white direction signs. Turn right on Route 12 and drive across the Afterbay Dam. Continue on Route 12 for approximately 1.6 miles. Turn left into Grapevine Campground.
