About
Ruffed Grouse Campground sits at 3,100 feet elevation along Eightmile Creek in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, about 15 miles from Winthrop. This small, shaded campground offers 4 sites in a peaceful forest setting, making it well-suited for small groups seeking solitude away from the more popular Methow Valley destinations. The campground serves as a gateway to the Pasayten Wilderness. Nearby trailheads provide access to the challenging Copper Glance Trail No. 519, as well as Hidden Lakes Trail No. 477 and Larch Creek Trail No. 502 at the end of Eightmile Road. Fishing opportunities exist along Eightmile Creek. Facilities are basic: vault toilets are provided, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply or treat water from the creek. Trash service is not provided; pack out what you pack in. Sites can accommodate vehicles up to 35 feet, with a limit of 2 vehicles and either 2 tents or 1 RV plus 1 tent per site.
Directions
From Winthrop, travel 8 miles north on West Chewuch Road (County Road 1213) to Eightmile Road (Forest Service Road 5130). Continue 7 miles northwest along Eightmile Creek to Ruffed Grouse Campground on the left.
