About

Nice Campground sits at 2,700 feet elevation in the Methow Valley Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. The site was heavily impacted by the 2021 Cub Creek fire and is now characterized by an open, sunny landscape with native shrubs and grasses naturally regenerating. This transformation has created a unique camping experience different from the typical forested USFS campgrounds. The campground serves as a good base for small groups looking to explore the surrounding area via trails or quiet scenic drives on forest roads. It offers basic amenities including vault toilets and picnic tables, though campers must bring their own drinking water and pack out all trash. The light usage level makes it an appealing option for those seeking solitude. Access is via West Chewuch Road north of Winthrop, then onto paved Eight Mile Road along Eightmile Creek. Payment is handled through a mobile Scan & Pay system.

Directions

From Winthrop, travel 8 miles north on West Chewuch Road (County Road 1213) to Eight Mile Road (Forest Service Road 5130). Drive 3 miles northwest on paved Eight Mile Road along Eightmile Creek to Nice Campground on the left.
