Rosita Flats campground is located in the southern section of Lake Meredith National Recreation Area along the Canadian River in the Texas Panhandle. This primitive dispersed camping area covers approximately 1,740 acres and is one of two designated off-road vehicle use areas within the park. The campground offers 75 first-come, first-served sites with no advance reservations required or accepted. The terrain at Rosita Flats consists of wide trails with varied conditions including sand, whoops, and occasional water crossings, making it popular with ORV enthusiasts. ORV operators must obtain a free NPS off-road vehicle permit and possess a Texas Off-Highway Vehicle decal, along with DOT-approved safety gear. The campground is accessible via unpaved roads and can accommodate trailers and RVs at several sites around the area, though accessibility may be challenging depending on road conditions. Facilities are minimal, reflecting the primitive nature of this camping area. The campground provides trash collection services and allows campfires in existing grills and rings only. There are no toilets, water sources, or showers available on-site, so campers must come fully self-sufficient. The area is also open to horseback riding. The Texas Panhandle experiences cold, windy winters and hot, dry summers, with wind being a consistent factor year-round.

Directions

From Amarillo, take Loop 335 North, then exit Highway 136 North to Fritch. From the north, take FM 1913 from the Dumas Highway or FM 1913 from US 287. Rosita Flats is located near the southwestern side of Lake Meredith along the Canadian River, accessible via unpaved roads off US 287.
