About
Blue West Campground is a caprock campground located on the north shore of Lake Meredith, accessed via FM Road 1913. Perched on the cliffs overlooking the lake, this primitive camping area offers excellent views but difficult access to the shoreline below. The campground features 30 first-come, first-served sites, each equipped with a picnic table and shade shelter, making it ideal for campers seeking a quiet, off-grid experience in the Texas Panhandle. The unpaved road through the campground provides access to sites that can accommodate trailers and RVs, though the primitive conditions and clifftop location require careful navigation. Vault toilets are available year-round, but there is no water on-site, so campers must bring their own supply. Campfires are permitted only in existing grills and rings. The location offers a unique perspective of Lake Meredith and the surrounding breaks carved by the Canadian River over centuries. The area is particularly known for spectacular sunset views across the Texas plains. While the campground provides no modern amenities, it serves as an excellent base for exploring the 11 campgrounds and diverse habitats within Lake Meredith National Recreation Area.
Directions
From Amarillo, take Loop 335 North, then exit Highway 136 North to Fritch. From the north, take FM 1913 from either the Dumas Highway or US 287. The campground is located north of the lake off FM Road 1913; turn onto Blue West Road.
