Condition of Turkey Creek Trail

Turkey Creek Trail, located near the Harbor Bay Campground Area, is available to hike for one-mile at this time. The trail past one-mile is underwater.

Fritch Fortress Campground sits atop a scenic caprock bluff with panoramic views of Lake Meredith in the Texas Panhandle. Located on Fritch Fortress Road within Lake Meredith National Recreation Area, this campground provides a comfortable base for boaters, swimmers, and campers exploring the area. All 15 sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis with no camping fees. The campground offers excellent amenities for a National Park Service facility, including flush toilets, hot showers year-round, and potable water. Each site features a picnic table, shade shelter, and grill, with campfires allowed in existing rings and grills only. A dump station and trash collection are available on-site. The paved road through the campground makes access easy, and pull-through parking accommodates RVs and trailers of various sizes. Fritch Fortress provides convenient access to Lake Meredith's water-based recreation while offering a more developed camping experience compared to the area's dispersed camping options. The Texas Panhandle experiences cold, windy winters and hot, dry summers, so visitors should prepare accordingly. Cell phone reception is available at the campground.

Directions

From Amarillo, exit Loop 335 North, then exit Highway 136 North to Fritch. From the north, take Highway 1913 from the Dumas Highway or Highway 1913 from US 287. From the east side of Fritch, exit Highway 136 on Eagle Boulevard, turn north on Fritch Fortress Road, and follow about 3 miles.
