Rocky Neck Picnic Shelter is a 32 x 80-foot open-air facility located at Rocky Neck State Park on the shores of Long Island Sound. The shelter accommodates up to 80 people and includes 10 picnic tables, one large grill, and nearby restrooms and parking. The facility provides easy access to the park's half-mile crescent of soft, white sandy beach, making it ideal for group gatherings and events. Rocky Neck State Park encompasses 710 acres of pristine coastal habitat situated between a salt marsh and tidal river. The park features clear waters for swimming, fishing opportunities for mackerel, striped bass, blackfish, and flounder, and five miles of trails through diverse ecosystems. Wildlife viewing includes ospreys, cranes, herons, and mute swans. The park's coastal thicket, salt marsh viewing platforms, and geologic glacial features offer something for visitors of all ages. The picnic shelter does not include electricity or running water, so groups should plan accordingly. The park's location on Long Island Sound provides protected waters as Long Island and Fishers Island act as natural breakwaters, creating generally calm conditions along Connecticut's coastline.
