The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has issued an Air Quality Action Day for the following counties: Southern Fairfield, Southern New Haven, Southern Middlesex, Southern New London. from 11 AM this morning until 11 PM EDT this evening. An Air Quality Action Day means that Ground Level Ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards. Rocky Neck Picnic Shelter is a day-use rental facility located within Rocky Neck State Park, a 710-acre recreation area on Long Island Sound. The 32x80-foot covered shelter can accommodate up to 80 people and features 10 picnic tables and a large grill. While the shelter itself has no electricity or running water, guests have access to nearby restrooms, parking, and the park's beachfront. This is not an overnight camping facility. The shelter is available for daytime rentals only, operating seasonally from Memorial Day through Columbus Day. The rental fee is $220 plus a $9 processing fee, which does not include vehicle parking charges. Reservations must be made at least 7 days in advance and can be booked up to 11 months ahead. On busy days the park may close due to capacity limits, so arriving between 8-10 AM is recommended.
