Devil's Hopyard Picnic Shelter is situated within the 1,000-acre Devil's Hopyard State Park in East Haddam, Connecticut. The park is renowned for its dramatic Chapman Falls, which cascade more than sixty feet over Scotland Schist formations featuring unique cylindrical potholes. The picnic shelter provides a covered gathering space for visitors to enjoy the park's natural beauty, which includes pristine forests, the Eightmile River (a designated National Scenic and Wild River), and excellent birding opportunities. The shelter is available for rental and provides a convenient base for exploring the park's extensive trail system and fishing in the clear, cool stream waters stocked with trout. The park's signature geological features, including glacial formations and metamorphic rock formations, add to the area's natural intrigue. While the shelter offers a protected gathering area, visitors should note that no running water is available at the facility.
