About

Selden Neck Island State Park is a 607-acre uninhabited island that was separated from the mainland in the 1850s, making it the largest island in the Connecticut River. The roadless island offers a true backcountry camping experience just a short paddle from civilization. Four primitive campsites are available: Cedars (20 campers), Quarry Knob (12 campers), Springledge (8 campers), and Hogback (6 campers). All campers must arrive by canoe or kayak as there is no vehicle access. Each site features fire rings with cooking grates and picnic tables. Pit toilets are available, but there is no potable water, showers, or trash service on the island. Campers must bring all drinking water and pack out all refuse. Open ground fires are prohibited; fires are only permitted in the provided fire rings. Downed timber may be used for firewood, but cutting live vegetation is not allowed. The island borders state hunting lands, so campers visiting after Labor Day should be aware of goose hunting season and wear fluorescent orange during deer archery season beginning mid-September.
