This is a day-use picnic shelter only. No overnight camping is available. The park is open April through Columbus Day from 8:00 a.m. to sunset. Shelter reservations require booking at least 2 days in advance through ReserveAmerica.

In New York, Northeast Suffolk, Northern Nassau, Northwest Suffolk, Southeast Suffolk, Southern Nassau, and Southwest Suffolk Counties. * WHEN...Until 9 PM EDT Saturday. * IMPACTS...Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This is a multi-day extreme heat event with near record high temperatures and little overnight relief. This level of heat can be deadly for those without adequate cooling and hydration. Impacts to transportation infrastructure and electrical and water systems are also possible.

Day Pond Picnic Shelter is a reservable day-use facility located within Day Pond State Park in Colchester, Connecticut. The shelter is a large open-air pavilion measuring 40 by 90 feet with a capacity of 75 people, equipped with 18 picnic tables and 2 grills. Note that the shelter itself has no electricity or running water. The surrounding state park offers a variety of recreational activities including hiking trails, pond swimming, and fishing in a trout-stocked pond. The park is known for its scenic waterfalls, with the tallest cascade reaching ten feet. Restrooms are available at the park, and pets are allowed on leash in picnic areas and on hiking trails. This is strictly a day-use facility. No overnight camping is permitted at Day Pond State Park. Amplified music, bounce houses, and other play equipment are prohibited at the shelter.

Directions

From Route 2, take Exit 16 in Colchester. Follow Route 149 South for 3 miles, then take a hard right onto Peck Lane and a left onto Day Pond Road.
