Orient Beach State Park
Closed for the season. Pavilion reservations open February 1 at 9:00 a.m. for the upcoming season and must be made at least 7 days in advance. Park hours vary seasonally: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from November through early March.
Special Weather Statement issued May 2 at 1:45PM EDT by NWS Upton NY
The combination of drying fine fuels, northwest wind gusts between 25 and 30 mph, and relative humidity values between 25 and 35 percent will contribute to an elevated risk of fire spread Sunday afternoon for the Lower Hudson Valley, New York City and Long Island. This forecast considers meteorological, fuel, and land conditions and has been developed in coordination with state fire and land management officials. As a reminder, the annual statewide burn ban remains in effect until May 14. No burn permits are issued. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts. Please refer to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website for more information on burn restrictions.
About
Orient Beach State Park sits on the eastern tip of the North Fork of Long Island, offering a natural wonderland with 45,000 feet of frontage on Gardiner's Bay. Designated as a National Natural Landmark in 1980, the park features a rare maritime forest with red cedar, black-jack oak trees, and prickly-pear cactus. Salt water marshes and abundant marine wildlife make this an Audubon Important Bird Area where Great Blue Herons, Egrets, Black Crowned Night Herons, and Osprey are common sights. The park provides one pavilion available for rental that accommodates up to 100 people, with reservations available through ReserveAmerica. Recreation opportunities include swimming in the calm bay waters, shore fishing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, windsurfing, hiking, and biking. The park has become a United States Light House Society Passport Stamp Location where visitors can view four historic lighthouses: Orient Point Lighthouse, Plum Island Lighthouse, Long Beach Bar Lighthouse, and Cedar Island Lighthouse. Amenities include showers, restrooms, picnic tables, grills, a playground, and a seasonal concession stand. Kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals are available seasonally from late June through Labor Day. The park office provides maps of kayak trails for exploring the bay waters.
