About

Timber Creek Campground is the only campground on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park, located eight miles north of the Grand Lake Entrance along Trail Ridge Road at an elevation of 8,900 feet. The campground contains 98 sites, including standard nonelectric sites and walk-to sites, all available by reservation only through Recreation.gov. Sites accommodate RVs and trailers up to 30 feet in total combined length. The campground has been impacted by mountain pine beetle infestation and wildfire, which killed many trees and resulted in minimal shade throughout the campground. However, this creates opportunities to see forest regrowth with wildflowers filling surrounding meadows in June and July. The area features a mix of Douglas fir, lodgepole pine, and ponderosa pine. Wildlife is abundant, with mule deer and Rocky Mountain elk commonly seen, and occasional sightings of black bear, coyote, bighorn sheep, and moose. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring with grate, and tent pad. During the summer season, potable water is available throughout the campground along with dish sinks, a water fill station, and a dump station. Food storage lockers are provided throughout the campground to protect against bears and other wildlife. The campground offers access to over 350 miles of hiking trails in Rocky Mountain National Park, including the Colorado River Trail, Coyote Valley Trail, and Green Mountain Trail. The historic Holzwarth Historic Site is located nearby. The town of Grand Lake, with dining and shopping, is 10 miles south of the campground.
