The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has issued the following... WHAT...Air Quality Health Advisory for Wildfire Smoke. WHERE...Moffat, Routt, Jackson, Grand, Rio Blanco, Garfield, Eagle, Summit, Gilpin, Clear Creek, Mesa, Pitkin, Lake, Park, Delta, Gunnison, Chaffee, Montrose, Ouray, San Miguel, Dolores, and northern parts of Montezuma and Saguache Counties. Locations include, but are not limited to Craig, Steamboat Springs, Walden, Granby, Hot Sulphur Springs, Kremmling, Meeker, Rangely, Glenwood Springs, Eagle, Vail, Breckenridge, Central City, Georgetown, Grand Junction, Aspen, Leadville, Fairplay, Delta, Gunnison, Buena Vista, Salida, Montrose, Nucla, Ouray, Telluride, Dove Creek, and Saguache. WHEN...900 AM Wednesday July 01 to 900 AM Thursday July 02 IMPACTS...Areas downwind of large fires in southwestern Colorado and southeastern Utah could have periods of moderate to heavy smoke through at least Thursday morning. HEALTH INFORMATION...Public Health Recommendations: If smoke is thick or becomes thick in your neighborhood you may want to remain indoors. This is especially true for those with heart disease, respiratory illnesses, the very young, and older adults. Consider limiting outdoor activity when moderate to heavy smoke is present. Consider relocating temporarily if smoke is present indoors and is making you ill. If visibility is less than 5 miles in smoke in your neighborhood, smoke has reached levels that are unhealthy.

WHERE...Douglas, Jefferson, Denver, western Arapahoe, western Adams, Broomfield, Boulder, Larimer, and Weld Counties WHEN...400 PM Tuesday June 30 to 400 PM Wednesday July 01 IMPACTS...Action Day for Multiple Pollutants is now in effect for the Front Range Urban Corridor. Continued hot and sunny weather conditions may allow ozone concentrations to reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category on Tuesday and Wednesday. The transport of wildfire smoke may increase particle pollution levels, reaching the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category, or worse, at times. For Colorado air quality conditions, forecasts, and advisories, visit: https://www.colorado.gov/airquality/colorado_summary.aspx If possible, please help us reduce ozone pollution by limiting driving gas and diesel-powered vehicles until at least 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2026. Overview

Rocky Mountain National Park is open year-round, covering 415 square miles (265,807 acres) in Colorado with over 300 miles of hiking trails. The park is currently in its winter season (late November through May). Trail Ridge Road, the iconic high-altitude route, officially closed for winter on November 14, 2025, and typically remains closed until late May. It's closed at Many Parks Curve on the east side and Colorado River Trailhead on the west side. However, several scenic drives remain accessible including Bear Lake Road, Endovalley Road, and portions of Trail Ridge Road to Hidden Valley and Many Parks Curve. For winter camping, Moraine Park Campground is open on a first-come, first-served basis (no reservations) with limited amenities and no running water. Wilderness camping permits are available year-round for $36 per trip. The park has seasonal raptor closures in effect at certain climbing areas (February 15-July 31) to protect nesting raptors. Winter visitors should be prepared for snow, ice, drifting conditions, high winds, and below-freezing temperatures, especially above 10,000 feet. No timed entry reservations are required during winter. The park's Information Office operates on reduced winter hours: 8am-4pm Monday-Friday and 8am-12pm Saturday-Sunday.
