The campground typically opens in June and closes mid to late October, both dates weather dependent. Due to high elevation (9,200 feet), snow is possible even in summer months. There is no potable water on site. Maximum stay is 14 consecutive nights.

About

Pines Campground sits at 9,200 feet in Routt National Forest, adjacent to the South Fork of the Michigan River. Built in 1964, this small 11-site campground is located at the base of Owl Mountain with easy access to OHV roads and wilderness trails. The campground provides a quiet basecamp for fishing the mountain stream, backpacking, and off-highway vehicle riding. Each site includes a fire grate and picnic table, with two vault toilets serving the campground. Due to extensive beetle kill in the area, campsites offer very little to no shade. There is no potable water on site; campers must bring their own supply. The nearest dump station is 35 miles away in Walden. Maximum trailer length is 20 feet. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis and accepts exact cash or check only. Cell phone reception is limited, with T-Mobile and AT&T providing the best coverage. Maximum of two vehicles allowed per site.

Directions

From Walden, head east on Highway 14 for 22 miles to Gould. Take County Road 21 (Forest Road 740) south 4 miles to the campground.
