About

Rockcastle Campground was a primitive campground located along the Rockcastle River within Daniel Boone National Forest in Laurel County, Kentucky. The campground offered rustic camping opportunities in a scenic setting along one of Kentucky's notable whitewater rivers. The campground has been closed indefinitely following damage from Rockcastle River flooding in 2019 and subsequent deterioration of road and campsite conditions. Most improvements have been removed from the site. The Forest Service has not indicated plans to reopen or rebuild the campground. Campers seeking nearby alternatives in the Rockcastle River area may consider Bee Rock Campground, located along the same river approximately 18 miles west of London off KY 192, which offers 25 first-come, first-served wooded sites with scenic views of the river and surrounding cliffs.

Directions

From I-75 at London exit 38, travel west on KY 192 for 14.2 miles. Bear left onto KY 1193, then travel straight ahead on KY 3497 for 6 miles to the end of the road at the former Rockcastle Campground location.
