About

Bee Rock Campground occupies a scenic stretch of the Rockcastle River where it forms the border between Laurel and Pulaski counties in Daniel Boone National Forest. The 25 wooded campsites offer views of towering cliffs and rock formations along the river. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with sites suitable for both tents and small RVs. Each site includes a fire ring and lantern post, with shared picnic tables available throughout. The recreation area features the Old Sublimity Bridge, a historic Civilian Conservation Corps structure restored for foot traffic only. From the campground, visitors can access Rockcastle Connector Trail, Rockcastle Narrows Trail, and Bee Rock Loop Trail. The adjacent Bee Rock Boat Ramp provides river access for paddlers and anglers pursuing smallmouth and rock bass. The downstream float to Rockcastle Campground covers 7 miles of flat water where Lake Cumberland backs into the river. The campground's name derives from local legend claiming wild honeybees once nested beneath a large cliff here. According to the story, local beekeepers dynamited the rock to destroy the competing hive, sending honey flowing down into the river.
