Cumberland Falls State Resort Park
Closed — Closed through March 31, 2026 for campground upgrades. The park and waterfall remain open year-round, but camping will not be available until the 2027 season.
Special Weather Statement issued April 12 at 3:24AM EDT by NWS Jackson KY
Low humidity, sunny to mostly sunny skies, unseasonably warm temperatures, very dry fuels, and breezy conditions will combine to result in Elevated Fire Danger this afternoon into early evening. Winds will diminish and humidities will gradually recover after sunset. Remember that Kentucky regulations make it illegal to burn between the hours of 6 AM and 6 PM within 150 feet of a woodland or brushland during the Spring Forest Fire Season that runs until April 30th.
About
Cumberland Falls State Resort Park campground is nestled within the Daniel Boone National Forest in southeastern Kentucky, centered around the spectacular Cumberland Falls, often called the Niagara of the South. This 125-foot wide waterfall creates one of the Western Hemisphere's only moonbows, a lunar rainbow visible during full moon nights with clear skies. The campground features 50 sites divided into two loops: Ridgeline and Clifty, with 21 sites offering electric and water hookups and 29 tent-only sites. The park offers extensive recreational opportunities including 17 miles of hiking trails ranging from easy to difficult, with the Moonbow Trail connecting to backcountry trails in the Daniel Boone National Forest. Seasonal amenities include guided horseback trail rides, an Olympic-size swimming pool, and guided rafting trips on the Cumberland River. The river provides excellent fishing for bass, catfish, and panfish. Additional facilities include tennis courts, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard, playgrounds, and a camp store. The campground is located 15 miles southwest of Corbin and is part of a full-service resort park that includes DuPont Lodge with the Riverview Restaurant, gift shop, picnic areas, and the Moonbow Cafe. The park offers interpretive programs about native plants, animals, and local history. Golf carts are permitted with a $25 weekly or $100 annual permit. Sites accommodate a maximum of 8 people and 2 units per site, with a 30-foot maximum length restriction for camping equipment and vehicles.
