About

Rock Creek Group Camp occupies a prime location at the entrance to Rock Creek Campground, the largest campground in Chickasaw National Recreation Area spanning over 67 acres of forested land. Designed in the 1940s and constructed in 1951, the campground sits within mature oak and hickory forests characteristic of the Crosstimbers ecosystem. This group site accommodates tent camping groups seeking a primitive experience in a natural setting. The campground serves as an ideal base for exploring Veterans Lake, the closest lake access point for fishing, swimming, and birdwatching. Nearby hiking trails follow cold spring-fed streams past waterfalls and lead to mineral water and freshwater springs. Wildlife photographers may spot red fox, turkey, deer, and opossum throughout the area. The Chickasaw Cultural Center is nearby for those interested in learning about the region's Native American heritage through exhibits and interactive displays, and the park's bison pasture offers opportunities to observe these animals grazing. Two restroom buildings provide flush toilets and sinks, with shared water spigots throughout the campground. Fire rings and picnic tables are provided at sites. An RV dump station is located outside the campground near Bromide Pavilion. Cell coverage is spotty, and campers should prepare for variable Oklahoma weather including severe heat, wind, rain, and possible tornadoes.
