About
Central Campground is a family-friendly primitive group campground located in the Platt Historic District of Chickasaw National Recreation Area, just minutes from downtown Sulphur. The campground consists of 10 group sites arranged on a loop surrounding a large open field suitable for volleyball, football, or horseshoes. Each site accommodates up to 30 people and includes picnic tables and fire rings, with community water spigots and seasonal flush toilets located nearby.
The campground's location provides excellent access to the park's spring-fed swimming areas. Nearby Travertine Creek offers refreshing swimming opportunities, and Panther Falls is just a short walk away. Little Niagara, a popular freshwater swimming hole, is also close by. Hiking and walking trails meander through the area, passing waterfalls and both mineral and freshwater springs.
The campground operates seasonally from approximately May 1st through October 1st. All sites require advance reservations through Recreation.gov. There are no shower facilities or electric hookups. Alcohol is prohibited at this campground. The site's proximity to the Travertine Nature Center, bison pasture, and historic attractions in the Platt District makes it an ideal base for families and groups.
