About
Central Group Camp sits in the Platt Historic District of Chickasaw National Recreation Area, an area characterized by spring-fed streams, natural mineral springs, and travertine formations created by complex geological forces. The campground caters specifically to organized groups such as scout troops and school groups, offering nine large sites that accommodate up to 30 people and one small site for groups of up to 10. The primitive camping experience here includes water spigots, flush toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables, but no showers or electric hookups. A short walk from camp leads to Panther Falls, a popular swimming hole fed by cool spring water. Travertine Creek and the nearby Little Niagara swimming area provide additional options to escape Oklahoma's summer heat. The Travertine Nature Center is within walking distance, featuring nature exhibits and live animal displays. A bison pasture nearby offers wildlife viewing opportunities. Alcohol is prohibited in this campground and throughout the eastern section of the park from May through September.
