About
Buckhorn Campground Loop A sits in the rolling Arbuckle Mountains of south-central Oklahoma, where the western plains meet the eastern Crosstimbers forest. The 19-site loop occupies a prime location next to Lake of the Arbuckles, providing easy access to the Buckhorn Boat Launch and excellent fishing for bass, catfish, and crappie. The southern trailhead for Rock Creek Multi-Use Trail is nearby, offering hiking and biking access to the Chickasaw Cultural Center. This loop was designed primarily with tent camping in mind, though many sites can accommodate small RVs and boat trailers. Unlike Loops C and D, Loop A has no utility hookups. Amenities include seasonal flush toilets, year-round hot showers, seasonal potable water from shared spigots, and a dump station located on Buckhorn Road. Each campsite has a fire ring and picnic table. Campsite 1 is fully wheelchair accessible and located across from the accessible restroom building. The surrounding area offers abundant wildlife viewing opportunities due to its unique position at the ecological crossroads of plains and forest. The park restricts alcoholic beverages east of US 177 from May 1 through September 30.
Directions
From Davis, Oklahoma, drive approximately 8 miles east to the junction of Highway 7 and Highway 177 in Sulphur. Turn right on Highway 177 and go approximately 7 miles to Buckhorn Road. Turn right and follow signs to Buckhorn Campground Loop A.
