About
Richland Creek Campground is a small, remote campground nestled in the Ozark National Forest with 11-16 primitive sites. The campground sits near the scenic Richland Creek Wild & Scenic River, which flows along the north side of the facility and features spectacular waterfalls, rock formations, and bluffs. The area serves as a gateway to the Richland Creek Wilderness Area, offering excellent opportunities for hiking, whitewater kayaking (especially after rainfall), wildlife viewing, and exploring natural features.
This is a true backcountry experience with minimal amenities. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Most sites include picnic tables and fire pits. Access requires navigating 9 miles on Forest Service Road 1205, a rough gravel road that makes the campground unsuitable for larger camping trailers. Visitors should be prepared for a rugged, remote camping experience and must pack out all trash.
The campground is particularly popular with kayakers and canoeists during winter and spring rainy seasons when Richland Creek offers Class II, III, and IV rapids. Hikers can explore unmarked wilderness trails leading to waterfalls and scenic overlooks. The area's elevation and remote location provide excellent opportunities for stargazing and experiencing pristine wilderness.
