About

Bayou Bluff Campground is a designated dispersed camping and day-use area located in the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest, just outside Hector, Arkansas near the Illinois Bayou. Effective October 2021, the site transitioned to a Point of Interest with suspended fees for both camping and day use. The upper loop is permanently closed to camping while the lower loop remains available for dispersed camping. The area features one of four historic CCC rock shelters, a large pavilion, three additional shelters, and a small pavilion, all managed on a first-come, first-served basis. A vault toilet is available. No potable water is provided, and visitors must pack out all trash following Leave No Trace principles. A 1-mile interpretive loop trail showcases the picturesque bluffs and breathtaking scenery characteristic of this section of the Ozarks. The area offers a primitive camping experience with minimal amenities but maximum natural beauty along the Illinois Bayou.
