About

Resurrection River Cabin is a remote 12x14-foot rustic log cabin set in a dense forest of spruce and hemlock, overlooking the expansive Resurrection River valley and surrounding mountains. The cabin provides basic shelter with a wood stove for heating, a table, and an outhouse. A rainwater catchment barrel is available, though the water quality is poor; all water from the river must be treated or boiled before use. The cabin sleeps six on wooden bunks but does not include mattresses, bedding, cooking utensils, electricity, or cut firewood. Access requires hiking 6.5 miles on the Resurrection River Trail from the trailhead at mile 11.5 on Exit Glacier Road, then following a 0.5-mile spur trail to the cabin. Beyond Martin Creek at mile 4.5, the trail becomes narrow and rough with mud, heavy brush, and downed trees. Major stream crossings at Martin, Boulder, and Upper Summit Creeks have no bridges. Winter access is particularly difficult because only the first mile of Exit Glacier Road is plowed, requiring extended snowshoeing or skiing approaches. This cabin operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees collected and no reservations accepted. It appeals to experienced backcountry travelers seeking solitude and willing to tackle challenging trail conditions.

Directions

From Seward, drive north on Seward Highway to mile 3.7 and turn onto Exit Glacier Road (Herman Leirer Road). Continue approximately 11.5 miles to the Resurrection River Trailhead. Hike 6.5 miles on Resurrection River Trail to a short spur trail, then 0.5 miles to the cabin. Note: The last 7 miles of Exit Glacier Road are not plowed in winter.
