About
Resurrection River Cabin is a remote 12x14-foot rustic cabin perched in dense spruce and hemlock forest with sweeping views of the wide Resurrection River valley and mountain peaks beyond. Located in the Chugach National Forest on the Kenai Peninsula, this first-come, first-served shelter accommodates up to 6 people and provides basic amenities including a table, wood stove, splitting maul, crosscut saw, and outhouse. No running water, electricity, mattresses, bedding, cooking utensils, or cut firewood are provided. Access to the cabin requires a challenging 6.5-mile hike or snowshoe trip via the Resurrection River Trail, followed by a half-mile spur trail to the cabin. The Martin Creek ford at mile 4.5 can be extremely difficult during high water periods, particularly after rainstorms or during snowmelt; low water conditions are generally found in late summer through fall. The last 7 miles of Exit Glacier Road before the trailhead are not plowed in winter. The trail is closed to motorized vehicles May 1 through November 30 and closed to pack and saddle stock April 1 through June 30. This cabin is situated in heavily populated bear habitat and requires careful food storage and awareness.
Directions
From Seward, drive to Exit Glacier Road. The trailhead is at milepost 11.5 on Exit Glacier Road. Hike 6.5 miles on Resurrection River Trail, then turn onto a short spur trail for an additional 0.5 miles to the cabin. The last 7 miles of Exit Glacier Road are not plowed in winter.
