About

Rendezvous Mountain State Park is located in the northern foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in northwestern Wilkes County, North Carolina, rising sharply to 2,500 feet in elevation near the Blue Ridge escarpment. The park encompasses steep ravines, gentle valleys, cascading waterfalls, and small streams throughout its rugged terrain. Originally donated to the state in 1926 by Judge Thomas B. Finley as a 142-acre educational forest, the property transitioned to state park status in January 2022 and now spans over 1,800 acres. The park offers excellent hiking opportunities through mountain hardwoods with well-marked trails accented by educational exhibits and displays. Points of interest include a Forest Service fire tower, a historic CCC cabin, the Amadhey waterfall trail, and spectacular scenic overlooks with views across Wilkes County into Alleghany County and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The park features restrooms, a reservable picnic shelter with electricity and tables, an amphitheater with covered stage and seating, and a park office with visitor contact station. Rendezvous Mountain operates as a day-use only park with no overnight camping facilities. Access to the park requires navigating a steep, mostly one-lane gravel road approximately 1.4 miles from the main road with limited pull-outs. Nearby attractions include the Blue Ridge Parkway, Stone Mountain State Park, Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir, and the Wilkes County Heritage Museum.
